Douglas M. Lackey was born on the 10th of August 1932 in Sacramento, California , U.S.A.  He was a prolific composer of film and television scores, educated at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He has also composed the musical scorings for a number of industrial motion pictures. Joining the American Society of Composers and Publishers (ASCAP) in 1963, his chief musical collaborator has been Gene Kauer.

He died on the 22nd June 2016 in Woodland Hills, California. His last project was working on a musical he composed called "Fan Tan King" written by C.Y. Lee.
